My E4OD has had an ongoing leak, so I don't have much frame of reference for how close I am to full. I'm sure it's low when the trans is slow to engage in gear, but when I check the level, it will only show up on one side of the stick! What I've been doing is adding until it engages like it should. I'm tempted to add until it shows on both sides, but I don't want to overfill. This would be the passenger side of the stick. What do you think?
those E40D trans are hard to read the fluid level on that's for sure
mine only reads on half the stick-and ya gotta roll it around and look for it
wish there was a better stick to use
Always go by the "low" side, just like you would for engine oil.
The best way to check is to let the truck warm up, and then put it in low gear for about 4 seconds, and work your way up to park, stopping in each gear for 4 seconds (Holding the brake the whole time) 1,2,D,N,R,P. When you are back in park then check the fluid.
Do this each time, it helps to get the fluid ciurculating through the valve body.
