and do you yall know what color wire or wires go to it? cause the only wires i have in the engine area that can go to this sensor are two red wires from the glow plug harness.
Are there 2 wires one with a 90* connector and one with the straight connector.... if so the 90* goes on the pictured (overheat sensor) the other straight connector would go to the (coolant temp sensor) in front of the that head on the block just above the one pictured. The power wires will be grounded by the sensor(s) and complete a circuit operating the dash guage etc.
i have two wires open right now for some reason, they are both red but one has one white stripe and one has one black stripe. any clue what those are. and they come from my glow plug harness, but all my glow plugs are hooked up.
and i have an all black wire with a 90 degree boot on it going to a sensor directly above that one, really confused with these free wires and sensors, any help would be great.
nope. you can run the truck with all the wires disconnected except for the injector pump power, with no problems whatsoever.
if you want to check the solid black with the 90º boot, turn the key to run position(don't start)and notice the position of the temp gauge.
take a jumper wire and short the black wire to ground. the gauge will read overheat if it is the sensor wire and the rest of the wiring circuit is good.
Red with white stripe - temp gauge
Red with black stripe - engine temp light
Slide the protective outer cover back to see what color the wires are inside.
Unless someone has swapped the overheat switch and the temp sending unit locations, the angle boot should be on the one in your picture.
Looking at your picture again, it looks like they are in the correct locations.
If you leave them unhooked, no temp gauge or engine overheat light.
