PSD Gages
What type, size or kind of gages should I get to cover all the engine spec's while running etc for a 6.4 PSD engine. As I know very little to nothing about a diesel engine and keep reading and hearing about these gages etc, I need some information before I blow something up or hurt her.
1. Temp gage for water = Have, Oil gage, have
2. EKG ?? = Does What?
3. CHT ?? = Does What?
4. Boost gage ?? = Does What , Have
5. EGT ?? = Does What?
Any thing else I am missing, I will be towing a 12,500# TH trailer this comning year for several months out of the year, hunting fishing and Atv riding the Western half of the US etc.
I know kinda dumb questions, but I can't get the search to work right for me, so I'll ask the questions. I am sure that someone else might learn from the replies also.
TIA,
Don
ps, need the 411 on how to post pictures here of the new PSD F-350.
CHT is probably Cylinder Head Temperature
Not a clue about EKG
Boost is how much pressure, in PSI, is present in your intake manifold. Your PSD uses a system of two turbochargers to force feed air into the engine. When you force that much air through a confined space, pressure develops, which is what your gauge measures. More boost pressure equals more air going into your cylinders. Which means you can make more power. When you romp on the pedal, the turbos spin up and the boost levels come up to make the power you request through your right foot.
EGT = Exhaust Gas Temperature. This is how hot your exhaust gasses are at different points in the exhaust system. I believe there are 3 or 4 sensors in our 6.4Ls. One before the turbos, one after the turbos, one in the Diesel Particulate Filter(DPF) and possibly one more.
On edit: For some reason you can't receive PMs! So I'll do it here.
The easiest way, and the way most of us choose to do it, is to use a 3rd party photo hosting site. I use www.photobucket.com. You create an account and upload your photos. Once uploaded, you copy and paste the link to your photo here, with the "" tags before and after. Your photo will then appear on your post.
Hope this helps!
