Steering Wheel Covers

Anybody know where you can find a steering wheel cover to fit a 73 F100? I bought a universal lace up one from Advance, wasn't near big enough. Split in half after getting it on.

I know they do come in two different sizes. I got one from LMC (lace up), but I recently saw the same thing at Pep boys for about half the price. Most are the newer one piece slip on, but I wanted the old school style to fit my cool old school dent.

I noticed now with lace up style the color selection is not as big as it once was.

I measured the steering wheel today in the 73. Its about a 16.5in steering wheel. I cant find a steering wheel cover anywhere to fit it. I have already tried two and ripped them both in half. A lace up style one and a mossy oak camoflauge slip on one. I've looked at walmart, advance auto parts, and autozone they all carry the samething.

Because newer steering wheels are unbelievably thick thus no need for a steering wheel cover. Older vehicles barely had a rim for the wheel.

There has to be somebody out there that is making a steering wheel covers for them I would think? I have covers on both my 79's but the 73 is alot bigger. It would feel alot better with a nice looking thick cover on it.

As I said, try LMC, that is where I got mine. I know, the older wheels were as thick as a pencil, which I never knew why. The newer wheels are thicker and fit in your hands so much better.

OK I looked through my LMC catalog and found the lace up style steering wheel cover. There is two options. One that says fits up to 16'' wheels. The other says fits 16''-18'' wheels. The wheel in the 73 measured about 16.5'', is that correct? So which cover you think I should order? Thanks.

I am pretty sure I got the one up to 16", and it was snug going on, but it fits real well. I got the tan one, but it is more of a creme I think.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but wanted to get your thoughts. I put a slip on cover on my '88 Ranger yesterday and it took alot of pulling and tugging to get it on. Cover is for 14.5 - 15.5 wheel and Ranger wheel is 15 exactly. After pulling and tugging for a minute or so I got it on, but now there is looseness is my steering column when I turn or wiggle side to side. It clunks when I turn it side to side. Removing my horn cover and column housing, it looks like the top bearing now has play in it but there also feels to be clunking near the firewall. All connections outside look good. Do you think it I should just start with replacing the top bearing and go from there? I guess pulling on the wheel tweaked the bearing.

Sounds like something that was about to happen anyhow. Putting the cover on just made it happen a week or two earlier. I am guessing you got a high mileage truck, or I have seen owners, or PO's who excessive weight took its toll on the steering column, and seat. Sounds like time for a rebuild on the column, or perhaps a doner from a junk yard.

If in doubt, buy one of each, and send the other one back!!

It helps to warm them up before hand. It lets them stretch further.

Well I ordered the one that goes up to 16''. It came in today and went on nice and snug, it feels good and looks good. I decided to go with the black slip on one.
