gauges go out

I have an 02 F250 7.3PSD. Intermittently while driving all my gauges will go out , speedo, tach, temp, etc. Then I will hear aa click under the dash and they will reset. At night when this happens my headlights will dim and come back to full brightness. I had my alternator checked and it was 14.2V. It seems to happen more when cold. Any ideas.

It's probably going to be a alternator problem or a battery problem. Wacky gauges on late models always seem to be something with the charging system. Clean the battery cables and try that.

14.2 seems a little HIGH to me...thought 13.6 - 13.7 was the voltage at hi-rpm. Sounds like the computer trying to save your electrical system. Regulator (inside of alternator) is BAD!

What is voltage at the battery? With and without engine running.
