The factory air box is often where the problem is and hence you'll get all kinds of air being sucked around and not through any filter that you put into it if your not careful. Take a look at your stock air box and make sure that all of the closing tabs are functioning correctly and are not broken (its very common for one or more to be broken). If one is broken then its not going to be closing or sealing properly and you're gonna get stuff being pulled in through that leak.
IMHO you'd do much better with just about any other filter set up over the factory box on the truck. Choices: Aftermarket kits; DIY or Ford's AIS setup. I went with the Ford AIS system for the super good dust filtration I need for my location (however, with the AIS you'll probably have to either remove the "snorkel" to get sufficient airflow at WOT or add the fender sleeve kit).
