Has anyone used Pony Carbs. They do rebuilds on the 4160 Autolites. I dont seem to be able to find one for my 56. I dont care for Holleys and there seems to be problems with the Edelbrocks [ same as Carters]. Ive used Demons in the past but they are not the best for fuel mileage. Everything Ive read so far recommends the 4160 suppose to be trouble free. Thanks in advance.
HI
I have a buddy that worked for ford for years and see if he would rebuild your carb.
I know he does them but not sure if he wants to do any more. He is in Bolivar.
Larry
I have used Carters and now Edelbrocks for some time, and have never had a problem - except maybe if I turn right a little too fast. I'm with you and don't like Holleys and the worst carburetor I EVER had was the Quadrajet on my 67 GTO! I replaced it with a Carter. I have an Edelbrock 750 now on the 390 that is pretty nice from a performance standpoint.
I'm curious, what kinds of problems are you aware of?
Larrry, havent found a carb. yet. Julie Ive heard that they were coming dirty or warped and wouldnt seal. I dont have personal exp. I ran Carters in the 70's on big block Mopars with no problems. Have used Demons and liked their adjustabilty and parts, but rumor has it they are in trouble. I may just be adding to the rumor mill.
I've heard good and bad about Pony Carbs. They're very expensive... really very expensive, take a long time to get anything done, and if you have a problem after the sale, it's never their fault. But for the people who are willing to be patient and wait, and have no issues, they seem to be happy with the results.
The 4160 is a Holley not a Autolite. The Autolite is a 4100.The 4100 is one of the best carbs you can get ,good to about 500 hp.
For a 302 you need the 1.08 carb, getting hard to find.
In the mustang world of things the pony carbs are the best in the business as far as going stock. They fix any problems that were factory flaws. Expensive though.
