hey all. been having trouble with my 1990 f150 5.8 4x4 auto with the e4od. pulled trans codes and got 11 33 and 62. pass, egr and torque converter or solenoid pack. shifts hard 1-2 and 2-3 and also shudders an bit then too. pressure build up and then shifts. anyway i asked b4 and a cpl guys said it might be the mlps. heres my next question. when i put in park the orange gear indicator takes a while b4 it goes into park. the truck is in park but it moves ever so slowly into park. could that also be a sign of a bad mlps? if not what might be causing this? also how do i check a vss sensor. i got the info on mlps checking and im pretty sure 2 tests were out of range will try again to be sure. thanks guys this site is a lifesaver
I don't know much about trannys, but as far as the orange gear indicator goes, I think it works on an tension-adjustable wire or small cable. On my 94, there is a small white wheel at the bottom of the instrument cluster for adjusting the location of the shift indicator. I think you can access it without removing trim. Anyway, you might want to take a look at that assembly and see if anything seems out of whack. good luck
That would not have anything to do with your MLPS. It's just an indicator that is connected to the shift collar (on your steering column) by a very small cable.
thanks guys. ive already done fluid filter change. just re-checked mlps all within range. next thing is to check solenoid pack? i get code 62 which says something about 1-2 and 2-3 solenoid pack and or torque converter lockup clutch is bad. im gonna clean connectors now and does anyone have a way to check solenoid pack while still on truck? thanks guys
