ECM/PCM Swap
I just recently moved to Mobile, AL from Detroit and have made this trip many times. I have over 200,000 miles on the truck and I still do not not want to give this truck up.
I've had problems with coil packs over the years and had them replaces as needed however recently the truck developed a misfire and I brought it in to have it repaired. A place called TRAX. At first they changed the plug and coil pack but it made no difference so they called and said their tech was out and I'd have to wait and extra day. A day later I received a call telling me that the tech checked it out and that the computer was bad that that it would cost about $900 to fix it. As I am out of work right now, I declined and said I would be in to pick it up.
Several people have told me to buy a used ECM off the net but it needed to be matched up. So I went out and took the ECM out of my truck to get all the numbers. All that seems well & good but I do not know which numbers need to match. I've looked on ebay and I see several for my year, engine and tranny but none of the numbers seem to match. I know there are some pretty helpful gurus on this site and was hoping someone could help me out?
Here's some additional info:
2000 F150 4X4 Off-Road 5.4L Triton w/an Automatic and tow package.
The misfire is constant and relentless. I have no idea if they did a leak-down test and I called them a few days later to ask and they couldn't tell me but of course are more than willing to do now for and additional $80

There is a small rectangular rubber/plastic plug/cover with a white sticker that has the numbers YL3F-KC and then in larger font ATC2
On the other end where the ECM plugs into the harness it reads:
MLC-496A
ATC2
YL3F-12A650-KC
*K55YY1FHHHJ4*
G NPF 9L29F
Please let me know if you need anything further and thank you.
Sean
EDIT* Is there anyway to test these ECMs out to see if in fact they are bad?
Is this the route I should be following or should I invest in a leak-down test?
