The truck is an 01 F250 sc 4wd 6sp with 155,000 miles on it.
I am feeling a very slight vibration on the road. Speed does not seem to affect it one way or another. It seems like I feel it in the gas pedal and floorboard. I checked the drive lines to see if there was any play in the u-joints which there was none. I also checked the diffs, tranny, and TC to make sure they were full, and they were.
I did notice the center support bearing on the rear drive line has about 1/8 to 1/4 play in it. I was wondering if this would account for the vibration? I'm thinking it is a likely candidate, but wanted to make sure it wasn't supposed to have that much play before I go and replace it. It has a rubber boot or grommett, not sure what you would call it, that seems to allow the drive line to move up and down in the metal carrier.
I did replace the LF hub assembly about 3000 miles ago, cleaned and regreased both locking hubs, and greased the inside bearing of the LF HUB assembly at the same time.
I agree, center carrier is not a likely candidate. Would be an expensive part to replace to still have the same vibe'.
Have you tried mixing up the tire rotation just to make sure it is not tires? Putting a friends tires on for a test drive is a good data point as well.
Can you turn your front axle shafts by hand? Just making sure your hubs are not locked...
Hi guys, my truck is also rolling a little funny. From 0 to 18 it rolls fine . From 18 to 22 mph there is a slight shutter. 22 to 40 it's fine . 40 to 43 again a slight shutter. I don't feel anything as I am backing down. I am due for filters and oil and I just rotated the fronts. But the vibration was there before I did the rotation. There is 130k on my truck and my front brakes and rotors are about a year and one half old and show no wear. After checking the drive line I saw nothing that had too much play. Please comment!
and Thanks
