every now and then when i put my truck in reverse i can feel the rear end feels like its binding up for a quick sec and then it corrects itself and its fine. I dont know what the deal is with it or how to fix it but i do know that y truck is only a one wheel peel and its driving me crazy!
How can I make it Posi or limited slip? Can I check my vin with the dealer or on a web site to see if my truck came stock with limited slip?
You can check the certification label on the drivers side door for the axle code. Then check in the Superduty forum tech folder for the meaning of the codes. The code will tell you the gear ratio, as well as whether it was limited slip from the factory.
If you do have a limited slip axle, it's not unusual for them to not grip very well. Not sure what you can do. Some work pretty good, others don't. I guess if I was going to spend any money on it, I would look at a true locker. BTW, burnouts are how these limited slips get worn out.
As for the binding, my bet would be on a dry slip-yoke spline. Easy to fix yourself.
Have you ever replaced your rear diff fluid?
I just did mine at 73K (although they're suppose to be good for 100K) and it looked like a chocolate shake...You might start there with a good synthetic 75W-140 LS fluid.
i have not changed it. Truck has 82K.. I was looking at diff covers. Any specific kind or brand better than the other ones? I wint to keep this truck forever and i want this stuff to be right.

Thanks for the input guys!
I bought the updated OEM one from FTE parts guy. It is constructed out of aluminum and has fins to aid in cooling. You'll have to buy new bolts that will accomodate the thicker material. I went to my local fastener store and picked up 12 stainless steel bolts for about 3 bucks. It does not increase the capacity but I think the fins will help keep the temps in line better.
To add to this,
I get a little shutter when accelerating from a stop and making a turn. Also when there is a load in the back it is more noticeable. Going through my yard when it was soft with a the camper hooked up really brought it out and that was with out turning. Changed diff fluid about 10k miles ago and worked great until now. Normal or Not, would like some input. If you are looking for a replacement cover I can pull out my paperwork and see what, where, and how much mine was. Very happy with it for the price. Has a drain plug for changing the fluid also. PM me if you want the info.

If it is a limited slip rear, make sure when you change the fluid that you add the friction modifier to the new lube. I think Ford calls for 8 oz. of it which would be 2 Motorcraft bottles.
Oddly enough I was just getting on here to look into differential covers and maybe read up on gears. I am going to get my fluid changed and was thinking about doing an aftermarket cover that can hold a little more fluid. Is it worth it or should I just change the fluid?
My thoughts on gears is that I should just leave them alone.
I run 35's on a 20x10 rim and tow a minimal amount (although I might tow more if I buy a boat next year).
Check the tech folder over on the Superduty forum. It has a couple of links on servicing the diff's. Including installing an aluminum cover on the rear.
