I have a 300 with a YF on it that runs way rich. What jet and rod should it have? will the metering rod adjustment efect the idle circuit? The idle bleed screw makes little difference from seated to removed.
make sure the float isn't sticking or out of adjustment.
Also if some crud gets caught in the needle valve it can hold it open. causing a rich condition.
Yes metering rod can affect idle if out of adjustment.
I'd get a carb kit. That way it has the adjustment instructions, and parts you need for a rebuild. A rebuild should fix the problems you have if everything is stock.
I had found in doing some research the metering rod adjustment instructions. That got me to thinking that it may be the problem (among many ) that is causing the rich mixture. I had previously taken the top off and checked and adjusted the float level. The carb looked fresh and clean inside. Squirted carb cleaner in all the passages to make sure none was plugged and put it back together.
Other problems were 1) Rockers tightened all the way down holding valves open.
2) Several collapsed lifters, see1).
3) Worn out distributor.
4) Intake manifold gasket leaking.
5) Two sets of timing marks, older cover on a newer block.
