Trailer/Toad Wiring Issue.

This was after wiring the new Towed car with necessary wiring kit with Diode's to the towed car. On the initial test with the car plugged in to the Motorhome all lights on test function, only the Left Turn signal did not function.
Traced it back to the Yellow wire at the rear of the F-53 motorhome chassis Four wire plug receptical. However now the issue is with the left Stop/Brake light not functioning on the same Yellow wire, and the Left Turn signal is now ok.
This Yellow wire carries both the the left Turn Signal/ Left Brake signal to the Towed car, as the Dark Green wire carries the Right Turn/Right Brake signal to the Towed car which is working fine.
All other lights on the Motorhome and theTowed car function, Tail lights, both right and left turn and the Right brake light, only the left brake light does not function.
Is there some Inteface or Converter box somewhere upstream, as the Motorhome has Amber Turn Signals, which have seperate Yellow wire for the Left Turn, Dark Green for the Right Turn and Red wire to the MH Brake/Stop lights.

Have checked all fuses, turn signal relay under dash etc. All and any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Eugene.

If someone tied into the rear lights of the motorhome, then yes there should be a converter box somewhere to combine the amber turns with the red brake lights.

But a lot of these vehicles have a tow harness, and they have special wires coming out of the turnsignal switch that combine the brake and the turn functions like a regular American car. If you do have a separate tow harness, it usually has it's own fuses so I would hunt around first and see if you have any tow fuses.

Can you give us the year of the F53?
Ford did not provide a relay or tow package for the F53.

Here is an example of the 2000 F53 wiring:

Franklin2: Dave F, Thanks for the explanation. The wiring is original to the F-53 chassis as we bought it new in Sept.98 from Holiday Rambler, no add-on trailer wiring was added to the coach chassis, so will look into the steering wheel Flasher stalk as suggested.

Subford: Bill K, Thanks for the diagrams, will take a closer look at them this evening, the Ford F-53 Chassis is a 3/98 production unit. In a master wiring diagram I acquired from Holiday Rambler, the house builder years ago it indicates FORD INTERFACE, with a "12 PDS" carrying 9 wires, 4 going to the MH lights, (rt turn only, marker-tail, brake, & back-up) then 5 going to Trailer receptical (Electric brake, rt turn/stop, left turn/stop, ground, & back-up) then shows 2nd. bundle of 3 wires, (trailer marker-tail, MH left turn only & a duplicate rt turn/stop which does not continue to anywhere)

To add a history to this issue, while doing some welding dealing with a manifold stud repair this summer, (the battery on the chassis was disconnected). After reconnecting the battery terminals the flasher Relay under the driver side cluster of fuses on firewall was bussing perfusely, I removed it, and replaced it a while later, no more bussing.

On an outting with the MH I found that the left turn signal on the MH chassis was not functioning, (we were not towing the car) so I removed and replaced that flasher Relay and it was fine. We have not used the MH since. It's parked beside the house.

Then a week ago after putting a new wiring kit in a new car we are going to tow, the left turn flasher was not working on the car, traced the problem back to the MH plug at the hitch, but then it was the Stop/Brake light that was not feeding off the Yellow wire which carries both the Left Turn/Brake stop light. That's where I am now, I had read on another site here that they replaced a Converter at the back of the MH that Camping World had installed years ago and that fixed their problem, but I guess my rig has original wiring installed either by Ford or the coach builder Holiday Rambler. Let me know if you have any more idea's, again will review the schematic you provided later in the day. Thanks again all. Eugene.

Do you know the year of your F53?
Then I can post or email you the right diagrams if you email me your email address, mine is below.
It would be the VIN 10th position.

You can clearly see they have a separate harness and fuses for the tow or "trailer" wiring on this model, although this changed from year to year and yours may or may not have it. If it has amber turnsignals on the camper, I bet it does have a separate harness for towing.

Franklin2: Dave F. Yes it does have Amber turnsignals on the camper, it's a 99 chassis and Subford: Bill K. is going to send me the specific wiring diagram for my rig. It does appear from the Wiring diagram I have from the coach builder that it has an original seperate harness for towing. Thanks again. Eugene.
