i've cleaned all the connections possible to shiny metal, tight as tight. When measuring the cranking voltage it was off the posts of the batteries, only gettin 9 volts. So i'm not gettin the minimum volts out of the battery itself i need for cranking, regardless of the connections.
i replaced the old starter with a DB HT starter just last thursday, but i'm wondering if the old starter killed these new batteries, along with this recent cold snap. I only have 12 volts on each battery individually before key on, disconnected from each other. Then 11 volts key on, 9 volts cranking.

This is a possibility, how old are your batteries?
Batteries were bought about 2 months ago. The 1 of the old batteries was toast, so i replaced both. The day after i replaced them it was 25F degrees out and it fired right up, since then it has struggled, sometimes no start at all. Starter then starter getting stuck on 1st crank every morning, so replaced that last week with the DB HT.
ahh. Well I would take it down to a local auto parts store or mechanic that has a battery tester and have the batteries tested under load to verify that you actually have a bad battery or batteries. If they are good then something else is going on because you shouldn't be dropping below 10v during crank. Also be sure you're getting a full charge on the batteries as well. During idle you should have about 14v
Yup thats my plan after work today. When its running i get 14+ volts, so i'm pretty sure the alternator is working good. The other thing i noticed was before this cold snap, by which instead of the temps being in the high teens to low 20's at night they are now at 0 degrees, i was getting 11+ volts on the GP side of the GPR, where last night when i tested it i was only getting 10 there, so thats what got me to look at cranking volts again.
I too might suspect a bad battery.
I had two new ones from Auto Zone and one of them went bad - AZ replaced both and things were fine after that.
Good luck.
