OK, Mirrors on,next problem

Ok, got everthing delivered now. I attached the mirrors to the truck. Now, here is my first problem. I had the old paddle type and the truck has no harness for power heated mirrors. I have the Kool <NOBR style="COLOR: darkgreen; FONT-SIZE: 100%; FONT-WEIGHT: normal" id=itxt_nobr_15_0>Vue</NOBR> power heated Tow Mirrors FD79ER and FD79EL. The wires coming from the new mirrors are 2 black,1 yellow,1 purple, 1 green, for a total of five. The 2 black, could be 1 blk and 1 brn, my eyes are getting old. I need to know which wire does what.....yep Kool Vue sent NO wiring schematic and no instructions? I have made 2 harnesses with 5 wires each, 1 long for the passenger side and 1 short for the drivers side. Any help on the wiring color would be helpful. Thanks

OK, Mirrors on, next problem

I searched and found the company info. They could not tell me anything. They said they would have to contact the maker of the mirrors and get back to me. The Company info is below in case anyone else needs to contact them.

KOOL - VUE
17150 S. margay Ave
Carson, CA 90746
United States
Phone: 888-566-5883

Left (Driver) mirror should be:
Red -Left/Right (In/Out)
Dark Blue -Up/Down
Yellow -Common for L/R & U/D
Brown -Running (Clearance) Light
L. Green/Wht. -Turn Signal
Black -Ground for lights

Right (Passenger) mirror should be:
Dark Green -Left/Right (In/Out)
Violet -Up/Down
Yellow -Common for L/R & U/D
Brown -Running (Clearance) Light
White/L. Blue -Turn Signal
Black -Ground for lights

Both your mirrors could have the same color code for each function as the right side. That is, if Purple=Violet.

OK, just got off the phone with the company I bought the KOOL VUE FD79ER and
FD79EL tow power mirrors with heat ($188.00). They would not give me the color code for the wiring in my new mirrors. I even told them the colors and they still would not tell me what each wire is connected to. My mirrors have 5 wires total in each mirror. 2 blk, 1 purple, 1 grn, and 1 yellow.

I sure hope someone has these exact same mirrors and can tell me the color code. If not, I will have to do trial and error to find out. That is my last resort. I have a couple days left then the weather clears up and then I start work on this problem again.

Heat was originally Dark Green/Violet. Look closely at your "black" wires. If both are really black, check between the two black wires with an ohmmeter. If there is a complete circuit but with some resistance, then these should be the mirror heat. One wire to + and the other to ground. The mirror adjusting wires should match the colors I listed for the Passenger side in my earlier post.

I am editing the earlier post to showl the heat wires.

Thanks JockD!.....Yep, both black wires are for the heat. Now, does anyone have the pin placement for the mirror switch? Thanks!

Are you using the original switch or something else? I would recommend a trip to the junkyard to get the switch, door panel trim piece, and the wiring from a driver's door that matches your truck. The crew cab wiring is different from the regular and extended cab models.

If you use the junkyard wiring, the color codes I posted earlier will work for 2001 models for sure. I think the color codes are the same from 99 til at least 01, but with the many changes in 2002, I can't confirm the color code beyond 01.

I added power windows, locks (aftermarket), and power heated mirrors to my 01 XL regular cab. I had to make wire harnesses because my stripped-down model did not have all the power supply items or even contacts in the fuse panel to add the circuits. The door wiring was simple because I got the harness parts at the junkyard and just spliced my homemade harness inside the doors.

If the junkyard truck is badly damaged enough, they will cut the harness for the doors. If it is not too badly damaged, they might want to salvage the whole harness (which is one piece door-to-door) to sell to someone with a burned-up harness. If there is damage in the doorpost area, you can usually talk them into cutting the part that goes in the doors. My favorite yard sells that stuff cheap. $25 for both door harnesses, both trim panels with the mirror switch, window switches, and lock switches.

Hello everybody, just joined but have been reading everyones threads for while, thanks to all for the help. I am in the process of converting my mirrors to power and heated. I purchased the same ones (Kool Vue)both LH & RH. I saw that you have a timer with yours. Can you let me know the part numbers for the timer and a schematic. I am using the original ford switch.
