A friend of mine as 89 f-350 4x4 automatic w/ 7.3. He just bought it. The previous owner said he was getting h2o in the oil so, we rebuilt the oil cooler on it. We only ran it for aproximtly 15 min. and its blowing white smoke alot! The smoke dosen't smell like antifreeze and there is none in the oil and vise versa. Any thoughts?
my bet is injectors as well.does it run rough when it starts to smoke? im betting if you rev it a little while its smoking it will knock a little as well.does it go away if you leave it run after it starts to smoke?i have an injector that acts up here and there and does the same thing.
Mine runs rough like that for about 15 seconds first thing in the morning, and blows white smoke. I was working out of town about 3 months ago, and when I started my truck up in the morning, it ran rough and blew white smoke for about 10 minutes. It filled the whole motel parking lot full of smoke and looked like something was on fire, I'm surprised nobody complained, It only happened that one time like that.
The truck dosen't seem to run rough when it smokes, it appears to smoke less when reved up. Also the smoke just smells like Diesel exhaust. It clearly isn't sweet smelling like anti-freeze. Also I do know that a couple injectors (3, I think) are leaking. I can see it seeping out of them when the truck is running. Any other thoughts before I tell him to start replacing injectors? Also What injectors so you guys suggest?
If you see the fuel leaking outside the injectors, air in the injection lines could be causing more fuel to be injected is a couple cylinders, producing white smoke.
The usual leaking injector problem is when the injector is leaking fuel into the cylinder when the injector should be closed.
Again causing white smoke.
And in both of those examples, the white smoke usually has a very strong fuel smell to it.
