white smoke

My father inlaw has a 2001 powerstroke when he bought it it was hard to start and had to plug it in then it started missing and eventually got worse. We replaced the turbo twice glow plugs injectors idm and the sensor that goes into the head. Its not missing as bad anymore but blows white smoke. If we pul a trailer it seems to do fine. No white smoke .anybody have this problem or know what it might be

The color of the smoke some times will indicates what it is burning. Are you losing water? Are you losing or burning more oil than normal?

Broken Injector nozzle, cut o ring, bad copper...

Low/no compression...

Time to stop driving it, and figure out whats wrong before you buy a short block.

i dont know if you can look at a injector cup and see it is leaking. they are in the heads when you pull the injectors.
the only way to check the injectors is to send them off and get the checked.

Biggest bunch of rip off artists on the net...

If it smells like fuel there are only a few ways to get that... Injectors, Injector O rings, or compression.

My bet is injectors. Did you replace the O rings every time you pulled them?

If you pulled the injectors without replacing the O-rings that is bad.

EVERY SINGLE TIME the injectors come out you should at least replace the copper crush washer.

If the FPR was bad it would not cause white smoke. Idle issues and hard starts, fuel pump noise and added wear...

When you turn the key on the fuel pump should run for about 30-40 seconds without the truck running, then it will turn off.

You can drop the fuel tank and check the mixing chamber, there are screens in there that like to get clogged.

Still would not cause your white smoke issue. Your issue is from too much fuel reaching the cylinders, not a lack of fuel.
