I am trying to install a new cd player in my truck. It's a 1995 F350 crew cab dually. I first purchased a wiring harness and took out the stock stereo and found that the wiring was different. I then went to best buy and bought a metra. The salesman said that it was a premium sound system and that's why the first harness didn't work. So I took the new harness and it matched up to my truck.
I installed my Pioneer CD player and it sounded like ****.......I talked with the salesman again and he said it was because I had a factory amplifier and that I would be better off with the other metra harness that came with the amplifier bypass cable.
I took my harness back and got the other one. It has the same 2 cables that attach to the stereo and plug into the truck, but it also has a 3rd cable that plugs in around the amplifier. Just unplug one end, plug in the cable, unplug from the other side of the amplifier and plug it into the other end of the cable.
The problem is "Where the Hell is the amplifier?"
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have posted this down in the audio section, but didn't get any help there. That is why I am posting it here. Thanks in advance.
only if it has premium sound, if i recall the amp is located center of dash as a small square black box. but to be sure i would have to go out to my tool box and get my wire diagrams out
The shop manual claims we have a factory amp too, but when I replaced my stock tape deck just before the cross country drive, I sure didn't find it. I traced my wires back from the speakers which I also replaced, and there was nothing between speaker and stereo.
The factory speakers I replaced were the generic really bad cardboard ones, they sounded surprisingly good for what they were, but didn't hold up to fancy speakers.
