Compatability?

Sorry for all the nooby questions and this may fit that category as well...but, im just wondering what compatibility parts from (a) different years and (b) f150-250 have? I mean is there a general rule of thumb?

By parts i mean seats, dashbaords, heaters, doors, grills, etc etc

I guess the better question is what parts are compatible with my 68 F250...

There are some things from the 67's that are different, the doors will fit, but the door panel and door/window hardware are different from the 68 and up. 67's had pull ***** to control the heaters, 68 and up all used the same horizontal sliding controls. Beds, cabs, fenders, hoods are all the same. Some of the grills have differences, but they can be made to fit. I can't remember what years, but some of the later instrument clusters won't work with the earlier years, as far as wiring is concerned. Most everything in the 67-72 trucks are interchangeable, except for some of the 67 stuff I mentioned. Some of the other guys might know of a few other things.

Hey, that's why the forum is here! We all had noobe questions at one time or another!

Hey thanks nuke ford for the reply. Ya know looking through parts magazines and stuff I keep seeing something I really like and looks cool and then I see that they don't make it for my year... Im trying to decide if I should keep my truck or just start over. I want power steering/ power brakes, I like the boxy dash of the 70's trucks, etc however I know what my truck needs fixing and buying another truck starts a whole new ball game

No, the steering is totally different.
Major cutoffs are: 68-72 for most interior/exterior parts, EXCEPT previously mentioned 67 differences and 70-72 beds had lights at the rear on the trimline, there were also wiring changes, headlight switch changes, and fuel tank mounting changes. 70 is the cutoff point for most of these, aside from dash wiring. 68-69, 70, and 71-72 are the major dash wiring times.
Under the truck, the main cutoff is 79, up until then beams and steering gear swap, engine perches fit, and axles fit. After that everything changed. For 75 the truck grew a couple inches, so driveshafts won't interchange past then. The frame is wider behind the cab from 73-79, but not enough to worry about.

The in-cab fuel tank is basically the same 1961/72.

Ford replaced the 18 gallon tank used 1961/69 (C1TZ9002H) in 1970 with the 19 1/2 gallon tank (DOTZ9002A) which was used 1970/72.

Yep, same frame. Only differences are between 2 and 4 wheel drives.
