Auto Gear Indicator....

Is off by one gear. Park shows Reverse, etc. Truck is a 99 F350 that I have had about 6 months. The indicator was always off a bit (like half a position) but it is definitely getting worse. Any ideas how to fix it? I was thinking of pulling the steering column plastic off and hopefully there is a nut or something that can be loosened up, realign the gear indicator, then tighten everything up again. I know sounds way too easy. Anyone have this happen before? Any parts I will need? Any help would be appreciated, I have the day off and need to get this done before the indicator stops working completely. Truck shifts and works fine, it is just the indicator.

there is a pin for the shift lever under the column that loosens up. it happened to my friends 350. I've never actually fixed one but he said it was easy. check it out and let me know.

WAIT! Don't take anything apart. It won't quit working and it's easy to adjust. There is a small wheel under the column that you can turn and get it back in alignment. Pull the cover off and look underneath the dash for a little plastic wheel with teeth that you can turn. Once you've found it you can reach under and turn it while watching the indicator to get it lined up again. Once it get's light outside, I'll take a pic and post it.

Somebody will likely already have one they can post up for you since this is a common (and annoying) little quirk with our trucks.

Little black thumbwheel in the white plastic housing attached to the bottom of steering column - center of picture (just to right of text).
