Newest tune update from Ford

Is there any possible way I can go back to a previous tune I had on my truck before it was updated. I went in about 2 months ago to have some work done and they took it upon themselves to update to the newest tune update. It is absolutly the worst my truck has performed since I've had the vehicle. I was calculating about 375 miles per tank of fuel. I drive the same route everyday. I'm now at 240miles a tank and I'm not towing anything. This is calculated fuel and not by the dash computer. My truck has smoked a little during regen, however now I'm unable to see the vehicle behind me. That tells me its extremely rich. How does Ford come about and creating a new tune for the trucks. Is there one insight that I can change too? Is there a way if I have the old tune numbers that I can go back. If not its like gas just went to $4 bucks a gallon for me. I admit what I had before they tuned it was awesome, compared to this..

Don't know about the software flash but the smoke from regen is normal IF your conditions are right.

Ambient temp below 55, DPF can temp below 600 degrees, regen cycle starts = decent amount of grey smoke until the DPF can heats up to about 750-800 degrees. What happens is that the DPF is not hot enough to burn the fuel and it smokes. Just happened to me yesterday and it reminded me of how the cooler weather effects this stuff. There is a TSB or something about it in the 6.4 Tech Folder somewhere.

sounds more to me like a bad flash as well. This latest tune is not good. I heard others saying the same thing. I think this one also did away with the continuos message of "cleaning exhaust filter".

Best thing to do for others that may read this post. Tell you service advisor please do not flash!

You cant go backwards on the Programms, As much as many people want to. But in some instances, The dealer has no choice when it comes to a reprogram. If there is a recall, wich there was a couple on a 6.4, The dealer is bound by fedral law to reprogram the vehicle. You probly however should bring it back in if you have driveability concerns after a reproggram, they shouldent hurt or change something drastic on the truck like your saying, the last proggram was just to inform the operator when the vehicle was in a regen. and should not have make it act up on you.

We have not had any problems with any of the tunes. We do have the latest tunes and the truck runs perfectly. There is the issue of the tunes not being installed properly due to the inexperience of the dealership installers. IMO the truck performs better after the latest tune. Do not be bashful about checking and verifying the qualifications of the dealership personal who are installing the tunes.

Can anyone confirm that the cleaning exhaust filter message has been turned off on the latest flash. I have the latest flash and this is the one thing I was not told and is happening. I assumed that this was an issue with the tech doing the update.

As far as i know, the cleaning exhaust filter message will stay in the reprograms , I havent read anywhere as to it will be removed, They are saying the majority of people wanted to know when the filter was being cleaned, thats the reason for having it now tell you, It also Helps warn the operator when to expect the diffrent sound the truck will make, ex. Induction noises and exhaust noises. but as for the installer of the reflash, The process is very simple, and if a tune is not installed correctly, The truck will not run, so as for the posts about that, Its like a light switch with a reprogram, It works or it dosent there is No inbetween, If the reprogram fails in the middle, the truck will not run, or you will have a cluster full of idiot lights on.

While i can't confirm nothing, i will tell you my 2010 has 1400 miles, and i have not see any indicators of the DPF doing it's thing. Take it for what is worth.

I had my truck in about 2 months ago for a DPF replacement. After I got it back I noticed that the "Cleaning Exhaust Filter" message came on for about 10 seconds and then went off. I went back to my dealer and the service writer stated that they had done an update and that a part of the update made the message not stay on for the entire cleaning cycle. I have had the message come on and stay on once since then, but every other time it comes on for about 10 seconds then goes off. I asked the service writer why they did that and he said that they got complaints that you could not scroll through any other info pages while the message was on. I dont like the fact that they changed it. I dont understand how they expect us to drive until it is clean if we have no idea when it is done. Just my 2 cents. Maybe closer to a $1.

My truck was in a few months ago and the dealer changed an EGT probe and supposedly updated the PCM. The message still comes on and stays on until it's done, but it only regens for about 15-20 minutes max and the hand calculated fuel mileage has been getting better and better ever since.

Not sure why, but the latest mileage calculation this evening was 16.2 mixed city/hwy, about 120 miles a day. Only thing I've done is start buying my fuel from one particular Chevron station... Almost got 550 out of the last tank of fuel. I generally fill up when the 50 miles to go message comes on.

I'd say you have a legit problem, let them take it back and work on it. Mine went back twice for the same problem of constantly regening and occasional white smoke while doing so. More like smoking out the traffic on the freeway.

They will not throw parts at it to fix it. Ford won't allow them to do that under warranty. They'll have to catch a code or see it for themselves...

Are you sure they didn't change from #1 diesel to #2 diesel in that time frame? That would also make a big difference. My mileage dropped big time.

At least the majority of you are getting a message on your info center. When I got my reflash done, it has never displayed when regen was taking place. Thanks to my programmer it lets me know right away. And I do know that they reflashed my truck on the account of when I put it in park the regen goes away.

I just got my truck back Wed from having a new turboinlet pipe installed (which they had to pull the tranny to do). Now the cleaning exhaust msg only stays on for about 5-10 seconds. The only way to know it's still running is to run the status function and it shows up as the last item that the system scrolls through but again only stays on for the same 5-10 secs.

Prior to taking the truck to the dealership, the cleaning exhaust msg would remain on the screen for the duration of the process.

My service invoice does not specify that a reflash was done, should it? Will an OASIS report show that this was done?

oasis should show that it was re-flashed...sounds like they did it.

I have heard this flash is step back so I tell them do not flash mine.

Don't think it is a step back... Among other things it does not allow a regen during idle so it adds a little to MPG.
