i see alot of 70's fords with cowl hoods, are they all custom desighns or is ther a company that makes them? i can't find them anywere and i was hoping to get one before i paint the ol ford soi wnt have to paint 2 hoods.
Any idea were to look?
75F350, did you build your cowl hood by adding the cowl on top of the stock hood, or did you cut the stock hood away under the new cowl? is yours all steel or fiberglass? i have a donor hood im going to attemp to cut and build up into a 3 inch raised center cowl. yours looks great by the way.
Thanks for the compliments. Mine is all glass, and it was made by cutting up a steel hood and using the stock braces etc as a mold. Actually, the stock stuff was a reverse mold but you get the idea. This hood uses stock style bracing, and still opens via stock hinges. It also uses a stock striker and latches like a stock steel hood.
My junk is heavy, but seems to survive the beating that I give it.
Aftermarket hoods might seem expensive, but after making one myself, the cost is justified, and they are a bargain.
I'm thinking about a full sized '67 'Vette cowl for my hot rod '73 I'm planning. The real full sized version is huge, the mini's look good, but the full sized is wild.
'75 F350, you got a couple of monsters! Good work!
75f350,thanks for showing the hood in detail. that hood looks real good. my plan was to cut along the raised area of the stock hood and add metal along the sides to raise it 3"-4". the other plan i had was to get another hoods raised center section and add it on top of the stock center but also with a 3"-4" raise in it. then cut out the stock area underneath. i dont want to add a bunch of extra weight tom the hood so im not sure how much heavier it will be. these stock big hoods are already heavy.
75F350 i love your trucks man, after seeing that red one i'm thinking about not selling my 3/4 ton
Wow, thanks for the compliments.
If you can help it, dont sell your ride. Sometimes it has to happen, I know, but I have always regreted ever selling any of my old iron, and replacement has cost me three time as much.
Try to find a way to keep your ride, and if it can be avoided, let it hang around, and enjoy it.
wow 73F350 cool *** trucks man what kind of lift do yo have on the red one? i really like the way it sits
I use a set of 8" super duty front springs using stock hangers (this truck is a 74 not a 79 as the grille might imply). I use an extended length shackle up front with a u-bolt flip and crossover steering. Thats the front.
For the rear, I use 64" chebby rear leafs from a 3500 series silverado (2004 I think) and hangers from the same salvaged vehicle. A shackle flip completes the lift to clear 39.5" Boggers.
As you can see from the pics, the front articulates so far that it eats fenders, but I run rocks and mud in that truck so I dont try to limit suspension travel. If it eats sheetmetal,,,,,,so be it. Let the bog dog hunt is what I say. I can always get more fenders. I actually go through several fenders a year.
