cowl tips?

I think that the part is named a cowl.. the body panel that's between the hood and windshield, full of holes and the wiper shafts poke through.

IF that's not the correct mane I'm sorry but here is my question.

What's a easy way to scruff this up and get it ready for paint? Mine has no rust and I am getting ready to paint it, the hood, and that odd strip under the grill.

There are some chips I plan on blending them, and using high build primer to fill the lows. I just don't know of a easy / good way to go about cleaning with all the holes and sunken spots?

Thanks,

I'm an amatuer, but the only way I see to make it come out right is bead blast it and start from scratch. You'll never scuff all of those holes. Let's see what the pro's say.

I though of that but it does not fit in my bast cabinet and I no longer have a bast tank for outside work might have to strip it ? I hope someone can chime in with another way

I avoid painting those like the plague.. If you can't blast it , you should strip it ..Even a light sand blast to remove the shine ...

If you don't want to blast it or strip it, use DX101 Sanding paste and a red scotch brite folded in half. The scotch brite with the sanding paste gets into spots way better than a scotch brite on its own. After you do it, hose the sanding paste off, let it dry, and look in the low spots. If they're still glossy, try it again or move on. Its a low wear area, if you can get it 95% sanded and have a tiny bit of glossy showing at the low spots you'll probably be fine.
