my truck broke down on the road today an i have no idea wat the problem is i got a 1983 f150 351w an it idles find an reves fine but when i take of its fine till i get it going then it starts to bog out an opinions
Also, does it happen to get worse the longer you drive? Also, you can usually hear the fuel pump whining when they start to go bad (stock ones). Of course, hi performance ones whine, anyways, before someone tries to get politically correct with me :-P
If you can, check the fuel pressure to verify before replacing. If it idles and revs fine sitting still it could also be a vacuum hose bad to the vacuum advance. That one's easy, and cheap.
Accelerator pump and power valve come to mind as possible problems as well as timing.
I think it's probably fuel filter or pump, (I'm leaning towards pump) as well, just throwing out a few more possibilities.
Timing- I doubt it's jumped time but the distributor may have turned on you. Just try and turn the distributor by hand, and make sure it doesn't. If it does, you may want to turn it in a counterclockwise direction with the motor running.
Accelerator pump- with the motor and air cleaner off, look at the top of the carb. Work the gas pedal and look for a stream of gas to shoot into the carb.
Oh- and by the way.. it's Fix Or Repair Daily!
