This week I noticed an oil puddle under the truck. My worst fears were realized when upon inspection, the source was found to be where the oil dipstick tube goes into the pan. I know to put a new seal in you have to pull the engine. Is there anything to try before I live with putting a bunch of oil in everyday?
There was a thread on it just recently. What I did besides tightening it like the man who has little people screaming at him is to JB Weld it and goop it. Clean it, tighten it, spread the JB Weld around the edges and the inter ring. Let it dry over night, then cover all the JB Weld with goop. I let that dry overnight also. Mine has held for two years now. There is a way to replace the O ring without pulling the motor but it scarely because of the possible chance you could drop the guts into the oil pan. There is also a thread some where on that procedure.
trust me, it can be done just be patient and very careful. besides pulling the engine and this way you can also cut the crossmember(the engine WILL NOT move) so you can get the oil pan off then when you put the crossmember back on you can weld tabs on so that you can bolt it back up together then run some welds down the parts you cut and it will be good. there are many people that have done this and it doesn't show any ill effects after years upon years upon years of use.
I don't care if it leaks a little bit because it has been slowly leaking for a lomg time. Like a quart every 3k miles, but now it leaves a coffee can size puddle after five minutes of idling. Thanks for the input, I'll read that thred you posted a link to, travis.
