6000 lbs. probably won't hurt it much, but using the trans to slow heavier loads down could. The trans is a bit weak, especially when try to slow down something heavy. Use carefully and at your own risk. The TransGo Tugger kit can help the trans out some, but the coast clutches are still a bit weak for this use.
I have the decel tune on my stock Early 99 trans pulling 8K-9K and use it all the time with no issues. It really helps when pulling through the North West.
