Have had my bits from Clay sitting on my bench for over a month now. Been working like a dog. 70hrs a week and havent been able to find a driver to put in my truck. Finally got that bit sorted and now Im off for 3 weeks. Finished on a Wednesday and headed of to Thredbo for 5 days on my motorbike with the wife and some friends. Before i left I sprayed everything on my F eee with PB blaster so all those nasty bits could soak until I back. Im replacing my uppies, ceramic coating my turbo exhaust outlet and manifolds. rebuilding the turbo and changing the fuel pump.
Here are all the bits
put in this little bugger to hopefully keep all my stereo settings
pulled the airbox
intake tubes nice and dry thanks to the Stealth CCV
intercooler pipes out
spider out - Im going to paint it Gloss black
downpipe out - notice the indentation other wise the 4" wont fit on the right hand drive
Now there was no way in hell i was going to get the 2 bolts of to remove the turbo. They were locked on tight. I actually started rounding one the heads off. So I did it the hard way. Removed the compressor side and backing plate so i could get easy access to those centre bolts.
compressor wheel to go. wasnt to happy about using the impact gun method. would have preferred to do all this on the bench.
four more bolts and we are good to go. can you see the hair line cracks at the bottom of the backing plate
turbo out. luckily the rebuild kit comes with replacement bolts. had to file the front bolt head down a little and tap on a 12mm ring spanner to finally crack it .
with the turbo and downpipe out all I had had to do was undo the two bottom flanges of the up-pipe and pull the whole lot out in one go. Now those up-pipes were stuffed. The left side fell out and the right wasnt much better either.
Finally the manifolds. They had been soaking in PB for 5 days. I must say getting access with a descent size bar was the most difficult bit.
Will send the manifold and exhaust housing off to get coated. It will take about five days which gives me time to get the other bits and pieces out of the way
Judging from how loose those old downpipes look, you are going to love the way the turbo spools up when you are done.
Have you pulled the valve covers off and retorqued the rocker arms, injectors?
Now is a great time to do that as well.

On my list Dan. Just gotta get this turbo apart so I can get the bits of to the ceramic coated. They estimate a 5 day turn around. While thats happening I will do all those bits that have been putting off. I also want to flush the remanding oil out of the IC , any tips ??
Brian, Pull the intercooler and put something like simple green in there and let it soak for a day or two, then flush it out with some water and let it dry for a day or so. That's what I would do.

Not correcting Jeff, but if you do use something like Simple Green make sure to get every bit of it rinsed out as it is very corrosive to aluminum. Maybe Oil Eater? Not sure if it is corrosive or not.
So a non corrosive water based degreaser and flush the heck out of it. Now will the IC come out on its own or do you have to pull other components to get to it. ?? Spose I might ask me m8, Google.
