Need some opinions

#1 I live in NYS---which means lots of salt.Cannot justify price of new XLT diesel and I use it for hauling firewood and some easy off road hunting.I have been looking to buy an Arizona or New Mexico 2002 F350 diesel and driving it home. But most vehicles are in the 150,000 mile range and up.But seeing that the chassis is more important and engines and trannies are rebuildable what is the opinion of buying a higher mileage clean vehicle and putting $5-10k into it as needed ? I like the 7.3 diesel also.It just seems like I might be farther ahead this way than paying bigger money up front.I should still be way ahead of the game and have a basically new engine and tranny.

i say go ahead and buy the high mileage vehicle, first of all its a diesel, and will last you FOREVER. i just bought a 2005 f350 with 180,000 miles on it. i love it. most people say that the're just broken in after 100,000, so it couldnt hurt to consider buying a high mileage truck, also ive talked to guys who have nearly 1,000,000 miles on their trucks. thats pretty impressive for a diesel engine if you ask me. as long as you keep it in good shape and take care of it.

My buddy has an 05 with the Bully Dog programmer and I cannot believe the power compared to my current 02 5.4. Well I just figured giving it a good cleaning and adding some aftermarket goodies and have a monster.
