HI guys we recently had a ford f750 given to us, but we know nothing about it. I was looking for some help decoding the vin number so we would atleast know which engine and drivetrain it came equiped with. The vin number is f75fvw87186. Thanks in advance we hope to have this running soon. The truck is surprisingly solid and should make up a great little dump around the yard.
Hi Danyrm, Welcome to FTE. Do you have any idea what year your truck is? I.E. what body style is it? What year pick-ups does it resemble, if any? I have shop manuals for '73, '77, and '79, so if it falls anywhere within that range, I might be able to help. I will look it up in my books and see if it looks like it matches anything, but body (cab) style and year can make the same v.i.n. #s and letters mean different things, so any additional info,or pics would be a big help.So far, it looks like it may be a 391 4v engine, (if its a conentional "pick-up" style cab up til '77). If it's a different style cab, or if it's newer, it could be a diesel or?. If it's older, I don't know. More info would definitely help.
the cab looks like a 73-79 f series but the dash and front grille appear to to be that of a previous model. It has the round headlights with the big steel grille in the front with the rectangular holes.
Sounds like a '73 to '79, alright. Do you have any other numbers on it? Like a sticker on the driver's side door post. This would have numbers for things like trans type, rear end type and ratio, color, trim, etc. Look in the "We need pics..." thread. A pic of the dash in my '79 f600 is in there ( It's the red rescue truck), does your dash look like that?
