ok so im doing some maintinance on my new 95 today since its my first day off of school and work on the same day. one thing on my list is to check the gp. i know how to get them out in one piece. but if it breaks i want to know what to do to get it out because the last thing i want to do is take the head off to get it out because my dad says thats what must be done if it wont come out. so any ideas to get it out if its broke and wont come out?thanks
Do a search on here about it and theres a few ideas most commonly the consensus is soak it in wd40 or pb blaster and then assuming you can grab the core of the brokern plug with a set of needle nose vise grips with sharp edges and try to work it out carefully. Like I said a search will yield you much more info as theres lots about this particular topic. Might also look into reading the sticky at the top of the page about GP's and GPR's they cover most everything in that thread.
A guy had a solution on here, but I dont' see how it would work.
He says to rotate the motor till the piston is in the upper position when you pull the GP and if it breaks, it wont fall down in the cylinder.
So, if that was the case, eh says you can just "suck" it out with a vacuum. I duno if that would work though.
Patience is the best thing with GP's.
I had no issues. they pulled out easy.
I've heard that you shouldnt try to run them out in one swift battle either but instead you should loosen them and if it starts to hang, tighten a little then loosen some more and so on. also the PB Blaster/WD-40/Kroil could only help things along.
Yup, just did mine and pass side 3rd from the front all I got was the sleeve, did a search and seen a neat tool made from a slide hammer and a needle nose vise grip, didn't take long to mod one up and taking my time got that sucker out!! Talk about a weight off my shoulders!! Was a great big gob of carbon stuck to the tip... No we'll see how she starts 2mro morning, sposed to be about 25 degrees.....

YFA first off take your time when doing these. My truck only had 3 working gps so it didn't start so well. All of mine came out easy EXCEPT one. "They" say the passenger side is the hardest. Not for me. By the way "They" is the great guys on here! They also say take that foil crap off of the heater box so that crap don't fall into the engine while doing the gps. It also comes off with a couple of screws to get it out of your way. Next if you have one get stuck like I did (#7, closest to the firewall driver's side). Oh yeah and you can't get the slide hammer tool thingy in there to get the gp out. So as far as getting the stuck ones out ALSO try seafoam cleaner it cuts thru the carbon really well. I also had to us a pry bar (36") to get that sucker out cuz it was really &^%ing stuck. I also had a 4x4 with a 2x4 stacked on top of each other so not mess up the head to have enough leverage to get that gp out. And last but not least your wiring harness and/or pig tails to the valve cover gaskets may also be bad. I got lucky and was able to clean the gaskets up but had to replace two of the pig tails.
