Ac is shot

I am going to be putting on a new ac clutch and was wondering what i should do and if it is hard or not.

Next question is why you think the clutch is bad? A bad compressor can put too much strain on the clutch which in turn makes the smoke come out. Does the compressor run long enough to check the pressures?

i am my no means a mechanic and i changed on on my 93 302. it's not that hard. if i recall, their are spacers you have to put behind the clutch. (tiny washers)

Its a 1989 ford f150 xlt lariat thanks for the help i havent tried to check the pressure what are the signs its bad.

Fluctuating pressure, normal head pressure/high suction, audible noise from the compressor are some common signs something is amiss. I have seen many cases where replacing a clutch resulted in another fried clutch because something was wrong with the compressor.
