What is embossed is the Gear and Lightning Bolt symbol used on Ford trucks of this vintage.
I would assume Mercury's used this same symbol which was also used on the hood front emblems of all 1961/64's and 1965/66 I-6's.

puman, I have a 1966 mercury m100, It does have The letters F O R D embossed in the seat back even though it is a mercury. underneath that is the gear and lightning bolt that number dummy was talking about. do you need pics?

Actually you're WRONG! And johnzmu is CORRECT. Ford IS embossed on the top of the "shield" and the gear and lightning logo is underneath. I can also provide a photo if OP needs/wants it.

Thanks. My question has been answered...no pic necessary. I see a 66 on ebay with a recovered seat and the embossing is there, (not clearly visible). Wonder where he had it done. Guess I'll just have to ask him. Thanks for the posts.

SMS Auto Fabrics sells the "correct" upholstery materials for our trucks. You can go to their website and get "samples" mailed to you. They will do the "correct" embossing on material you purchase from them for $85 (as of 8/2/09)
