We bought a Wii to help me and my wife to get in shape. I been found to be pre-diabetic. I do not have Diabetes, But with exercise and lose weight I can possibly prevent it.
Played the games that came with unit are not strenuous, But I could feel my heart rate go up and actually got a sweat started. I'm so out of shape.
I actually look forward to this than palying computer games. Once I get more stamina, I will get tougher games.
Finally something than sitting in front of a TV watching or exercising my fingers.
We've had one for awhile now, and they are pretty fun. I really dont play video games much, but its neat how you have to do the motions to get the guy to move, rather then just give your thumbs a work out.
Thats what I like about it also. So those -30 days I can still get a work out. I can increase the hardness play levels. Right now at beginner. Build up slowly without a coronary.
ya the wii is pretty fun, i did get bored of it pretty quick tho.. if your looking to get in shape without wanting to kill yourself.. try getting a treadmill, and settin it up in front of the tv, and just walk on it (or jog if your up to it!) its really easy to do this cause you dont get bored and you lose track of time, then you realize you've been on it for like 2 hours lol
when i was boxing i had the treadmill in front of the tv and i could jog / run for hours it seemed
oh ya.. my dad was found pre-diabetic a while ago, started excercising and eating right, but ended up with it anyways... good luck glen!!
Ya know Kirk, one thing I liked even better then a treadmill, is an elliptical machine. When we lived in BC we found a really good one for cheap, so we bought it, and it works amazing! Set that thing on the hardest level and you will be sweating in seconds, and the best part, its low impact.
ya i have used one before, when its cranked up wow it can make you work haha which is great and all, and you can also go for hours on a lower setting... but i didnt like it cause it seemed too mechanical i guess... didnt feel like a natural movement to me...
i have no room in my small livingroom to have a treadmill. Had one her, but it became a junk collector. I like to get a recumberant bike. But need to do inside home renos to get some room.
Right now just trying to get some hiking in with the dogs. Not doing it ofte enough. The look of bliss my dogs have when I take then hiking across the land here. It has been a long time since I have gone for walks through the feilds. So will be doing more of that before snow flys.
Playing on the Wii I feel it in my lower back when I play. I'm really out of shape.
Lately Ive been experimenting with jogging through the field too, and its actually kinda tough. Lots of uneven ground and whatnot, but it makes for great exercise too!
iT was a half hour. Cool and brisk out. The dogs were happy. They were glad to get back in the house.
Found a couple more fence posts that will need fixing next year. Next hike I think I will Check all the fence posts with the dogs. My north fenceline has not been checked. The west one more than half are changed. As is half the front ones. Which I done this summer.
Need to do these more. It sure will help me get back in shape. I miss hiking with the dogs and exercising. I use to do this a lot before my Knee injurys and divorce.
Oh well Once snow on ground will be hiking along the road. Once in better shape do this more often and longer.
