One mistake that is easy to make is to get wrapped up in putting the wires in the correct order to the correct plug, and start in the wrong place.
Like quicklook mentioned, lots of times the cap is marked for the #1 plug. If you start one post off, your plugs are firing way too soon or too late.
I did that many years ago, hmm maybe 40 years ago?
The 289, I was working on, ran but not very well, and was hard to start.
