Hello all. This is my first time posting here so please be gentle
I took my 1999 F250 SD Diesel into the Ford dealer today, because I was having issues with the shifter putting the truck back into Park. At times I'd have to get under the truck and manually manipulate the shifter on the tranny to get it to go into park. So, anyway, I figured about $100 - $150 to adjust the cable or fix the problem.
Well, Ford just called and told me that it would cost $700 labor plus $115 parts to replace the shift tube and shift tube bushings on my Truck. Long story short, I told him to get the truck ready for travel, and I'd be along later today to pick it up.
Have any of you ever had to do this work? And if so, Just how difficult a job is this? It seemed to me to be a pretty simple task, but having never done it, I'm not sure if I want to attempt to tackle it or just take it somewhere else for another estimate.
Thanks in advance.
Randy
I just did my 96 myself last week and it took me about 3 hours. I did not remove steering column completely, just let it rest on seat after removing 4 bolts. You have to disconnct batts. I also left steering wheel in place
