You can just pull the whole carrier and pop it into a gen 2 or 1.
The pinions are different though on the gen 3's.
You can upgrade a gen 1 to a gen 2 with a gen 2 pinion.
Gen 2's have better bearings on the pinions, but the better carrier and disk brakes on the outside are on gen 3's.
Interesting. I'm looking for a wrecked Superduty to steal a limited slip from. If it has 3.73 gears I might grab those too.
From what I've been told, the SD gears will not work in the 10.25 housing.
The SD carrier assembly slips right in. I put a 10.5 LS unit in my truck, but used 4.10's for a 10.25.
Finally got a chip for big red, girlfriend made my decision for me, bought the ts performance 6 position and its unreal! like u guys said its as easy as pluggin it in and gettin on the road. 75hp mode seems to be the best all around setting. lots of fun thanx for the help fellas.

Now save up for some good custom tunes. The TS tunes are ok, the tunes from PHP, TW, and DP Tuner are even better.
