1990 ford f250

Yes I no its old but it runs but the problem i have is the check engine light is on .Ive been to every auto repair shop and even ford dealers near me and they dont have a code reader for that old of a truck. this truck has the 5.8 engine. My question is, is there a way to get the codes with out a reader and if so how all i want to no is what is wrong so i can fix it.

so autozone can't read it either? Ever replace the O2 sensors? That is the most common issue.

autozone dont have the reader they sat its too old and would the O2 sensors effect the idle on the truck meaning it has gone off twice and the rpm went wayy up had to kill the engine and restart just to get light back on so idle would come down

If the idle went way up then that is gonna be something else.

Not sure what though. maybe others will chime in.

MAF sensor. Check that and clean it. Just an idea.

You might have better luck in the section for the older trucks, but go to fordfuelinjection.com to see how to pull codes on your truck. You don't need a reader.
