Ok Guys here is a great question for debate. First though would like to know where to go to find out which tranny i have in my 99 F-350 w 7.3? Would like to know if you can install one of the newer Torque Shift Trannies into the 99? Would like to see the rpms drop from 2000-2100 @ 70mph down into the 1600-1700 range so thought the 5 speed od might help All suggestion and appreciated
You've got the 4R100 transmission if you have the automatic. Not sure about the Torque Shift trannies. Does your trans not have an O/D switch on the shifter? Another good way to drop the RPMs at cruising speed would be to install a gear vendors over drive unit. Don't think they're cheap though but would be cheaper than a new transmission and any adapters that would be required to make it fit.
On another note I see that you're in Eagle River. I don't see very many people at all on here from our neck of the woods. I'm in Anchorage. Could always use a friend if any mods come up that help is needed with.
In another thread there is talk about lowering rpm. Labled double overdrive. I'm on my phone or else I'd link it here, sorry.
I'm not sure if the 6liter trans would bolt up to the 7.3 but if it did you would need the ecu out of the 6liter to control it which means tapping into all sensors and stuff. I know there is a standalone trans controller for the e4od 4r100 and such but have not heard yer about he 5r55xx somethingorother trans.
Just crawl under someones truck and measure starter location and bellhousing pattern and it will help in figuring out if it will bolt up to our trucks.
Let us know whatyou find out please.
ALL automatic '99 Superduty trucks have the 4R100 transmission. It's the only possibility. The overdrive ratio on that transmission is 0.71:1.
If you were somehow able to install a TorqShift trans you would find that you still have a 0.71:1 overdrive ratio. The difference between the 4R100 and TorqShift is in 1st and 2nd gears. The higher gears have the same ratios.
I was going to question you on that statement but then read your sig.
My onl question is that my friends 02 v10 with 373 revs the same as his fathers 06 v10 with 410 gears. I thought the tires were the same height and revs were darn close to the same rpm.
The way the truck acts though it seems like it's all different gearing completely.
Good to know we have a ford transmission guy here we can get info directly from.
It might feel like it's acting differently because the '02 is a 2V head design and the '06 is a 3V head design.
The 3V produces more power.

I realize the stock power difference between the two engines but his v10 is not all stock. We have built a custom cold air intake with kn filter, underdrive pullys headers modified ypipe 4" diesel exhaust superchip programmer and larger tb Aftermarket coils and aftermarket tq converter. The truck goes very well for being a v10. I've been very impressed with the truck. It actually makes me very dissapointed with my stock tune diesel. I can't wait to get the dp tuner.
