I haven't asked this yet but i've been wondering this for a long time now.
Ever since I've put the shift kit in my truck 've been getting belt slippage everytime it shifts. Sometimes WOT sometimes 3/4 throttle. I thought a new belt would help this but it hasn't. The tensioner and pullies are good and no problems there.
I replaced it with a goodyear belt. From what i've read elsewhere they make one that is called the gator-back or something where other people have used it and temporarily fixed the problem.
I don't suspect grease or oil but the next time i'm home i'll check.
125k miles on the tensioner, i took it to a place to get an alignment and asked them to check the pulleys and everything telling them the problem they said everything was fine. the tensioner seemed good since it took a lot of my gorilla strength to move the bloody thing. Perhaps I will look into this further. Any other suggestions out there? Is this doing any damage to my pulleys and accessories?
The tensioner should move pretty freely without alot of effort! As the belt stretches or shrinks while in use, the tensioner does what it sounds like, it keeps the proper tension on the belt.
If yours takes alot of effort to move it, it sounds like the belt itself would not be able to do its job. I can put a standard size wrench on mine and move it with minimum effort.
Most tensioners are bad when they "freeze" up not allowing easy movement. This is where I think your problem might be.
My truck has 96k on it and my belt slips when it shifts at high rpms to so idk lol. I think it may be the power steering pump causing it cuz it has a high pressure cut out on it ???? I dont know for sure tho but that would explain it
I forgot, I was referring to a time where I had to replace my alternator. to get the belt off i couldn't move the tensioner with my hand. the most recent time with a breaker bar i was easily capable of moving the tensioner.
it's been a couple of oil changes now and it's still slipping. The noise doesn't bother me since it only happens predominantly in wot. what worries me is if this is doing damage to the pulleys and components that the belt runs? The noise from the cab I kinda like at times to joke around just saying that's my blow-off for my turbo, jokingly saying that of course.
