I have a 97 140 4x4 and i need traction bars, but the only ones ive found are 250+. I am looking for the ones that go from the axle to the frame. Can anyone help me out on the cheap?? BTW im not good at welding so cant really make my own....
yes and the dilema at hand is that they are so expensive, so i was seeing if anyone knew where i can get it cheaper, some web site or something like that. sorry for the confusion
I just happened to catch this thread. I usually don't post here.
But I think I can help with some ideas. I know you said you can't weld but there are ways around that.
We, in the diesel section, get alot of axle wrap and there are varying ways to fix it.
You will need a tractor supply store and a friend or a shop that can weld.
Get two adjustable third links from a tractor and cut them in half. Get a piece of pipe the same diameter and weld it in between, basically making it longer. Then you make some brackets for the frame and the axle. Have the brackets welded on. Now you can adjust the traction bars for pre-load if desired.
Try searching the '94 - '97 7.3powerstroke section and you will turn up tons of info and variable ways to do this.
Some people just use a piece of pipe and brackets.
Look at this link. There are several cool mods you guys may be able to use. Click on the homemade traction bars link to see what I was explaining. Dzl Jim's web site.
I heard of what Neal said to do and my friend has it done to one of his old ford's that has the 460 in it. he uses it for pull offs and he had pictures up somewhere but i haven't found them. it is feasible though if you can find a welder.
awesome thanks for the tip, thats what ill def do....my springs dont seem like their saggen it sits nice, and everythings tight....but when the trucks parked and u push it back and foward, the axle has so much play, and when starting at a stoplight i can feel it, thanks for the info neal and papa joe!
