temps have been in the 50s and i have a new set of batts.
truck was turning over every day no problem.
this started all of a sudden-even if the truck was driven for a while when i went to restart it it was struggle. any ideas?
check the connections on the batteries, remove and clean until shiny, Glow plugs are important even at 50 degrees! but shouldn't matter on a warm engine. if not that starter is getting weak, time for new starter. testing at a parts store is normally a waste of time because they can't put a load on them.
I don't know about the 6.0 starter working on our trucks but it is a task that you can perform on your driveway. You won't even need a floor jack. LOL
You will need a couple of extensions to reach the top bolt. Everything else is right there in front of you though. The starter weighs about 10 lbs so be ready to catch it. LOL
I bought a new one (not re manufactured) from Autozone 3+ years ago, over 100,000 miles ago! never a problem. $200.00 to $250.00 depending on where you live.
what I got in mine as well as one of there big alternators as well. The starters are a Biotch to get the old out (3 bolts) and the new is a super tight fit as its a gear starter so it's twice the size of the original but only takes 2 bolts vice 3. Whats nice about the gear starter is it pulls half the necessary amps and spins amost twice as fast.
So the body of the new starter is larger than the old starter? The picture on the website doesn't make it look like that. It looks like a mini starter like I had on a racecar.
