starter problem
I put a 1978 351w engine from a Ltd and a c-4 transmision from a 1976 Mercury Monarch. Everything is fine but the starter won't turn flywheel. Flywheel is engaged by starter and I can see it move; but it seems to be in some kind of bind. I have removed torque converter bolts and the driveshaft and the bellhousing bolts and I think I am going to try to move it back and see if the torque converter and all the splines are aligned. Any thoughts and help appreciated.

You may not have the torque converter set correctly into the pump, creating a bind at the flywheel. If it's in right, the torque converter will sit way back in the bellhousing, and you will need to pull it forward so the studs go through the flywheel holes when the trans is attached to the engine. Another thing to check is the converter drain plug. It needs to go into it's flywheel hole, too. It's an item commonly overlooked, and it can get mashed against the flywheel, creating problems, too. Lastly, be sure you have the correct tooth flywheel for your transmission.
