i assume i need a 'flex' connection, for the in and out of the driveway action so i dont snap the pipes off....any ideas ? thanks ( again ! ) guys......
You mount the stack solid to the bed, then from the Y-pipe to the main elbow before the splitter you run a short piece of good stainless-steel flex pipe, look in big-truck shops for that.
will a 8 inch piece work? or 10 inch? i was gonna split after the downpipe ( turbo ) into twin 3" pipes, run em along the outside of the frame with 3" glasspacks on each side, then some flex pipe right before the 90 degree elbows for the stacks, up thru bed floor behind cab. with 3" raincaps, heh heh heh..... clink-clinky -clink-clink -clinkety-clink........

That certainly sounds like a plan, however keep in mind this can severely reduce your ground clearance where the pipes pass under the frame rails. And Rupejohs is correct that these frames flex a lot, however how long of flex pipes to use also depends on how often you test the flexibility of the frame - for a truck that don't go crawling and stuff you should be alright with 1-foot pieces of flex pipe, especially if you do keep the piping very close to the frame rails.
your plan is a sound one. that is how i have mine done with the exception of no mufflers for 18 years.
now i have a 3 inch flomaster at the end of the down pipe, and the y at the end of the muffler.and i run flex pipe from the 90 at the frame to the 90 where it turns up into the bed. this makes the frame side of the exhaust solid, and the 24 inch piece of flex pipe under the cab and bed along the frame picks up all the flex.
I had a very short piece of flex pipe on my old setup, but my downpipe was loose like Dave said his was so maybe I didn't even need the flex pipe. In fact now that I think about it the flex pipe probably wasn't really doing anything.
hate to be the one to bring this up but remember that if you get pulled over in some states and the cop has a stick up there butt, flex pipe is illigel
flex pipe is illegal ? even the braided steel stuff ? ( i know the 'corrugated pipe' stuff is illegal, but even the braid ? that sucks....maybe some d.o.t. boat rubber pipes, huh ? hah !) thanks again for all the replies, this board ROCKS...
i dont know about the braid but the corrugated is what i was talking about
one thing i do know is that the corrugated stuff is great for fixing half rusted off exhaust
The flex tube or pipe used for stacks is stainless, used on exhaust for years and years and years and, did I say years. Used on trucks, heavy equipment, agriculture equip exc. Link to some 3 inch: Stainless Steel Exhaust Flex 3" ID
I run a single stack, straight pipe from the turbo out, but I do have a flex pipe in the mix. It's about 1' long, mounted at the front of the 90 degree bend that goes up through the bed, and I've definitely twisted my truck as far as it can twist in any given direction. It has yet to let me down.
Flex pipe is illegal here, although I was also told that on a truck the exhaust only has to go past the cab anwyay, so maybe past that you can have anything you want on it.
