another cps thread,sorry
So I was on my way home from work the other day on the highway and my truck just turned off,no warning,no rough running ,nothing.I pull over after almost killing myself in the fast lane with no power steering and the truck starts up like it never happened.Went home with no more issues.Took truck out today and same thing on side road.wtf...Starts right back up no problem. So I go on ebay and order a black cps from international for 50 bucks. But Im thinking to myself what if it dies on my way to wrk and doesnt start.I go to napa and by a 25 dollar cps unit and install it.Im thinking this will hold me over untill I get the international one in the mail.I take truck out after installing the napa cps and truck dies the exact same way.Like someone turned the ignition off.Did I get another bad one.Am I an idiot for buying one at napa?Oh the truck has full tank of gas,oil level full recent fuel filter change(1000 miles ago)and no cel,and has been running like a champ, and still does except when it turns off.The only thing I can think of is cps and maybe a short on valve cover harness, which I will explore more tomorrow but dont think I will find a short..Sorry for long post.Im hoping you guys will tell me I got a bad cps from napa and everything will be alright when the international one comes in.lol..
I also put in a dp tuner couple weeks ago , less than 400 miles ago. Im going to pull it and make sure the contacts are clean. Maybe a potential problem there if contacts arent completely clean..But the symptoms I stated are from what I read textbook cps..
Those symptoms are also textbook for loose tuner chip so you are right to check the DP Tuner. Also make sure connector on back of the tuner switch is tight.
Where is fuse #9 under the hood? Some of the instructions for replacing cps say to pull fuse number nine, replace cps and put fuse 9 back in. I didnt pull that fuse cause I dont know where it is.

Diesel would probably be better.

As Robin pointed out, loose chip or loose switch can cause this. Watch to see if any other dash lights flash when this happens. Also start your truck and let it idle in the drive way. Push and wiggle your DP switch a little. If the truck stalls, you've found your problem.
For now, I'd put the original CPS in a ziplock baggie and hold onto it in case that's not your problem.
Glad you mentioned that. The switch. I have the dp tuner guage located on my 4 pillar setup. The night before this happened I took the pillar down to install the tranny temp guage thats been out of stock forever. Anyways I just went out and pulled the dp guage to check the connector and it must of been hanging on by a thread cause it completely became disconnected when i moved it. This may have been the problem.. I hope.... Seems logical. Thanks for that , I wasnt even thinking to check the guage. I should have but I had tunnel vision on the chip itself..

I was thinking that too.. But the oring is flat on it now. So ill just keep it in glove box as a spare.. From what I read its just a matter of time before it wouldve failed anyways. But im used to wasting money for no reason.. not the first time Ive replaced a part for no reason....

If you do indeed get a black CPS delivered I want the ebay link to the seller. I have seen several seller adds on ebay that have a picture of a black CPS but in the add they list an INTL part number for a BLUE CPS.
I'm not saying the blue ones are bad (they will work), but they are not the black ones and are not designed for the 7.3.
You should be able to use the 0-ring off the one you just bought.

Post the link. I'd like to check it out.

POSITIONING SENSOR
FITS 466E AND 7.3 POWER STROKE ENGINES
This is a copy and paste from that sellers add. The part numer I made red is a blue cps for a 466 as it says at top. This seller never says it is a black CPS but does show a picture of a black cps. People run this CPS without a problem but I think the seller is being deceptive.
Edit : Here is another eye opener I just found. This add says MADE BY ECHLIN. I Googled Echlin. See this LINK. It appears Napa and Echlin are joined at the hip. So I wonder what the difference is between the one you bought at Napa and the one you bought on Ebay. The Echlin part number on the Ebay add is CSS1103. What is the part number for the Napa CPS? Whatever color you receive I would like to know if it is an INTL part or an Echlin part.
Sent seller email stating to cancel order if its not made by international and isnt black. I said if its not then the add is very deceptive. I will wait and see, if He doesnt credit me I will file a complaint with ebay.. Thanks
