Agreed. True the previous owner may have stayed on top of service, but who did the service and with what products? Jiffy lube using the cheapest filter they can get, cheapest oil, DEX 3 trans fluid instead of SP etc? Top quality fluids and filters are one of the key factors to a 6.0 being toruble free.

Check out powerstrokehelp.com there is so much info there. I too am a tech, but I didnt know much at all about the 6.0's but have learned a ton here, and powerstrokehelp.com and just hours of research.

Well I am good a keeping a truck for long periods of time. I had a 1994 turbo diesel and I had that old truck 15 yr and I sold it because I want somthing a little newer. The truck started having some problems and I didn't want to invest any money the truck any more. So thanks for the info I guess I will have to see what happens with this 03. Thanks again

This may sound stupid or a little arrogant...but if you held onto a truck for 15 years, why would you want to buy a 7 year old truck and plan on holding onto it that long. I'll be the first to admit they're expensive and you don't exactly run out there and buy one for the heck of it (well unless you hit the lottery). But if your going to keep one that long, wouldn't you be money ahead to get a new(er) truck if you planning on holding onto it that long? Or at least one that doesn't have 120k miles on it. Yes, I purchased an '04 in '07; but the truck only had 27k on it...and I ran an Oasis on it before I signed on the line. Looking back I would have done it again.

well the truth is that if I can get the truck for 10g it is a hell of a deal. I don't know if I will keep the for as longe as I did the last one. But I do know that this truck I'm looking at is a truck that I would never be able to aford if it was knew. I not a rich man but I know a good deal when I see one.

Fordman, that sounds like a great deal, go for it but check the Oasis. Good friends stay good friends that way. My only other comments are use a fuel additive, Diesel Kleen is used by many on here, and the best quality fluids at recognized intervals. I have had some rough patches with my '03 but they seem to be ironed out now. I am at 94,000 miles, and plan for many more. I am kind of laid up presently but when I am back on my feet, I will drive it hard and regularly again.

Since your buying it from an indivual...there's two ways to do this. Both envole the VIN number...(A) take the truck to a dealership you have a good relationship with or (B) take the VIN number. You'll need to deal with the service department...ask if they'll run and Oasis on it. Be prepared to grease the wheels (spend some $$$ in the parts department). Or if you serous about the truck, bite the bullet and have some PM work done (oil change/fuel filters/trans flush)...your going to drop some serous change that way...but you'll have their attention. If not I wouldn't return there for any work or sales in the future...but that's just me. The only thing the Oasis is going to show you is any warranty/recall/service work preformed at a Ford/Lincoln/Merc dealership. It used to be you could get one done here on FTE but FoMoCo has restricted that information....so you're going to have to do it face-to-face. This is how I'd do it, but someone might have a better way.
