The best additions in my opinion are a roller cam, aluminum heads, adjustable valve train, stroker kit, then power adders and better internal components.....

I ordered that in order of what you will pay and what you will get for the money for a street strip performance engine.

How much are you looking to spend and what kind of power are you looking to make?

If the trans is from a small block then yes it will bolt right up.

You didn't say what year this truck is but unless it has mass air 400hp is beyond the capabilities of the stock EFI system. With mass air it's entirely doable but it will require fuel susyem upgrades on top of the engine modifications. To get to that number or relatively close you're looking at a complete HCI swap and new exhaust including headers.

On the other end of the scale simply swapping in a better cam and adding headers will put the motor in the 300hp range with big TQ and it can be done with even the old SD EFI system.. just takes careful cam selection. No fuel system upgrades needed at this level assuming the pump is operating up to spec.

If the motor is in good working order, good leak down and compression, you can bolt on a Vortech for roughly 3 grand; or pick up a used kit for roughly half that. A complete kit will come with the fuel and ignition components needed to support the boost pressure along with the bracketry, ductwork and compressor and it can be installed in about a day.

the truck has a rebuilt 351w with flat top pistons not sure what compression is but engine only has 4500kms on it. the year of the engine is 1991. Im wondering if i could go with a vortech if i have flat top pistons because compression is higher than stock. thanks guys

No more than 10:1, somewhere between 8.5-9.0 to 1 is ideal. One drawback nowadays is that you need to run premium fuel for supercharged applications.

would a set of aluminum heads be a good alternative boost of power. I had heard that you could get up to 100hp gain just from heads.

Nitrous is a very inexpensive way to get 75-100 hp easily and as lomg as you stay conservative in the use it will have very minimal negative impact of the engine.

I can see 100hp with a set of heads and a cam, but not with heads alone. Heads, cam and a good exhaust system will get you that 100hp with the proper fueling.

With that size tire, I would think you'd also benefit from a gear swap.

with 35's you need to run 4.56 minimum. im running 4.88's to give me a little extra and i can say had i gone with 4.56 i would have been really unhappy. Do this before you go modding the motor any because the gears will provide the biggest gains period. then see if you truely need all that extra juice.

im very happy with my setup and the motor is running jba shorties custome y and 3" exhaust otherwise its stock. I have an edelbrock efi truck intake waiting but havent felt the need yet to install it. Gears make all the difference

does anybody know what would be a good cam for a fuel injected 351w without causing major issues with the ECM. Also if i were to go with heads what do you think would be a good choice. Thanks guys
