Problem with new 03 Expedition
I drove it to work today and when leaving work saw another puddle. I looked underneath the back end and saw a liquid leaking from what appeared to be the rear differential. I immediately thought that I was leaking transmission fluid. I started to drive home and thought I would give the dealer a call. He mentioned to me that if it was the transmission fluid, which is potentially now low, could ruin the rear end. I kept on driving about 5 minutes and decided to pull over and check the transmission fluid level. It looked fine! After further examination underneath, that liquid is not red but white. I felt a little better about driving it home with the correct amount of transmission fluid.
Got the vehicle in the garage and its leaking pretty bad from the same spot. Almost looks like a soupy white liquid. Like if you were to heat up a white grease or something like that.
I thought maybe it could be coming from the power third row seats. They seemed to be powered by an electrical hydraulic system. Maybe that’s it but its hard to find the origin of the leak.
Any ideas? What could this white substance leaking in the back be?
Any help would be appreciated. I plan on bringing it into the dealer tomorrow morning. Should I drive it?
Thanks
I talked to someone on-line. He said it could possibly be a white grease that lubricates the gears in the rearend. Is that what's in there? Maybe it's leaking out a seal?
