A buddy of mine knows a guy that has a parts truck with aturbo on it that I can get for $300. He didn't have any info on it other than that it is missing the tube to the intake. I am going to go look at it this saturday. Is there any thing I should look for or check out before I maybe buy it? If I do get it, I plan to put it on when I have then engine out next weekend when I change the heads.
Sweet! check for movement on the turbo shaft for any play slight/small back and forth is ok but if easy movement might need to be rebuilt before installation. but other then that make sure u get the up pipes the down pipe even if its the stock version the driver side valve cover and other then the whole turbo itself the oil supply line...
Not sure Dave. I was told that in stock trim with 302 it was about #5000. I still haven't wieghted it yet. I guy that has the turbo called off for this weekend, he is going racing. Also he will be racing next weekend lol. He seems to not need the money to bad so I guess I will get to check it out at his leisure lol.
Dave, I don't know if you ever been up what we call "the cut in the hill" on I75 north here in cincy/northern kentucky. But it is a pretty good grade that will bring a loaded truck down to 35mph going up it. When traffic gets bad and I have to almost stop and then go again on it I stomp the smoke pedal and the black rolls and even some cars have truoble keeping up lol. When the turbo goes on it I plan to be able to add burnt rubber to the smoke cloud on that hill!
I can't say I remember it, but I have run up and down 75 many times back in the day when I was headed down to or back up from the distilleries.
That sounds kinda bad that almost every time I was on 75, alcohol was involved, but at least it was in the trailer, not me.
I know where there is a very low mileage 86 crew cab F350 two wheel drive dually that had a 460 in it.
I keep toying with the idea of getting it and doing a diesel conversion for a lighter vehicle and better MPG.
dyoung14, I hope you get a donor truck for the swap. After seeing what kinda torque these idi engines have I doubt that the wimpy 8.8 will hold up let alone the d44 front. Dave, will you build a 6.9 for this truck like the one you are running now? That would be a bad *** daily driver lol.
