General Grabber AT2's feedback
So I'm just going to ask the question:To anyone running the "new" General Grabber AT2 tires, what is your experience with them?
I'd love to hear anything you have to say about them. If the tread life is poor, do you tow heavy loads or drive a lot of gravel? If the tread life is great, do you drive a lot of highway?
If you have "tread squirm", or they cause your truck to wander somewhat, please explain.
I really can't afford new BFG's, and these seem like an exceptional tire for the price.
They would be installed on a F250 CC 4x4 v10 that doesn't tow very often, or haul heavy loads. I drive 2 miles of gravel to and from my house, otherwise it's highway.
Thank you so much for your time and comments,
Pat
I don't own them yet, but I am going to be buying them in a few weeks..
My son has them on his Girlfriends Jeep and says they are great.. They have been on for at least a year and no problems.. She even said last winter she never needed to use 4 wheel drive..
They look pretty good and are ranked high on the tire rack site..

I got a price of $975 for 4..
That is not a bad price for a truck tire
"new" stuff might have.
As I said, a little on the noisy side. Average to just below average tread wear, nothing to brag about in the mud (can't comment on that stuff others call snow). Nothing to make you hate the tire, but nothing that makes you a loyal follower either.
I'm running Cooper Discover ATR's now and I like them better so far. Less noise and the tread life seems to be better (except for the bad shock that ruined one tire

)Chris,
How many miles did you get out of the Generals??
They have to be an upgrade from the ContiCraps my truck came with
I know different trucks and driving habits can affect things, but for comparison; My factory Firestone Steeltex tires I was able to get 70,000 miles out of on a consistent basis (including more than one replacement set). They no longer make the Steeltex, so I tried some other brands. Pirelli Scorpions were a quite tire, but too soft. If kept inflated, the center would wear out in 20k - 40k miles. The Grabbers were about as noisy as the Steeltex, but only lasted in the 40k range. The Michelen LTX was an overpriced 45k mile noisy tire.
Due to a few suspension issues, I'm having difficulty pinpointing the range of the Cooper Discoverer ATR tires, but I'm guessing they will hold up for at least the 70k I've seen with the Firestone discontinued tire, and it's a much quieter ride.

They are aggressive tread and clean themselves out fairly well but once in the sticky stuff at slow speeds they slick up quickly. Seem very adept at grabbing stones and throwing them...
As for noise... I drive a diesel. With that said, I did experiment once on a long steep hill at 60 mph while searching out some other noises. These aren't touring tires, they're aggressive all terrain tires. They hum but it's not really that bad.
No real problems. I have them mounted on the stock rims so, as you can imagine, they bulge a bit and I don't have full tread width contact at full pressure.
They look great and even though they're mounted on the wrong width rim I don't have any squirm, but would I even notice on a dually?
I'll let you know how the tread wears.
