Just bought a 2005 Excursion 6.0 Limited and love it. When I bought the truck, the check engine light was on and I was told it would be fixed. It was fixed for the first 20 miles of my 500 mile drive back home. The Ford dealership in my area said that I have a EGR deleter and that's my problem. To fix the problem, I'll lose Horsepower and the fuel mileage with a $2000 bill to go back to stock. I want to improve, not go back to stock.
This is my first Ford and I'm loving it. Also, I don't know what kind of EGR kit is on the truck.
You did receive some type of warranty I'm sure? 30 days? 90 days? And even if not, I suspect it's current condition violates federal emission laws too. I would drive it back to avoid a $2,000 repair. Make the seller fix it. If they refuse, call in the feds and see what your rights are and to see if they violated federal law.
The ford dealership said that it would pass emissions because it's the EGR deleter that's giving the false reading and couldn't find any other problems. The dealer in PA said he would fix the some problems including parking sensors and the check engine light, which costed close to 900. ( mass air flow sensor) Once the dealer found out that it was the EGR deleter, they said it's a add-on and couldn't spend 2000 after spending 900 to fix the previous issues. I really don't know what to do, the truck is beautiful. Lifted about 6ins, Toyo open country, Moto metal rims, Jet black and huge. I have been looking for a 05 Excursion for 3yrs and broke down once I found this one.
